Glaucoma is worse in dogs than in humans and the pain involved is much greater. We have more medications to add to our growing arsenal, but the bottom line is the vet wants to remove her eye and then the other one when the swelling becomes uncontrollable.
I didn't even know dogs got glaucoma, but if you find yourself in this situation you can walk with me through this experience so you're not taken by surprise like I was.
Right now we have pain medication, anti-pressure drops, antibiotics, anti inflammation pills and drops AND emergency OMG what do I do now stuff to dehydrate her in the event her eye gets too swollen.
We see the vet on Tuesday to decide whether or not to have her eye removed and the lid sewn shut, have a prothesis inserted or wait a little longer to see if a miracle happens.
This little lost angel needs a lot of love so if you have some to spare send it her way. As you can tell we adore our pet family. Animals are so awesome to know. I hope the experience happens to you someday.
