When I was invited to write for Blasting News as a social journalist I had no idea social journalism existed. This is what I discovered:
Social journalism mixes professional journalism, contributor, and reader content. Think of Forbes.com or BuzzFeed. Most content is screened by professional journalists which is why I was so honored to be put on the front page. Then I received a note that complimented the writing. Aside from wanting to be an archaeologist, paleontologist, or geologist, I also wanted to be a journalist. Thank heaven I discovered writing which has allowed me to be everything I ever wanted.
This is the first of the four part series about my brother, Jerry Wertenberger, a Vietnam vet who lived with his experience in silence. Since he is quite ill, I wanted to write his story from my perspective and his photos before it is lost forever.
You can read it here or copy and paste this: http://us.blastingnews.com/opinion/2016/05/vascular-dementia-a-vietnam-vet-s-last-refuge-in-a-world-of-war-00936135.html
After you read it, offer up a little prayer for him. He needs it right now.
