I hated to see this audio CD end. Last summer it was Gone Girl and this summer my favorite read is Close My Eyes, a serious psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat. Close My Eyes hasn't been released yet and I consider myself extremely lucky to have been given a copy to review. While I don't care much for the cover (I would not have looked at this in a bookstore) I am grateful that my decision to read it wasn't based on lack-luster artwork. This is a great book with a shocking end. Eight years ago, Geniver Loxley gave birth to a stillborn baby. And though the years have passed, she's been unable to get beyond her loss. Her husband, Art, is a successful businessman running a green investment company. Even now, he's starting to meet with the Prime Minister to advise the UK on how to become a green country. Gen, a writer with a few books under her belt, hasn't written since the baby died. Actually, she hasn't really lived since the loss of her child. She's had more IVF treatments than she can handle, and Art wants her to start again. She teaches a part-time writing class that barely keeps her busy and spends most of her time agonizing over her loss and dreading to tell Art that she just can't do the IVF route again. Then, the doorbell rings. An older woman stands outside and Gen invites her in. A sip of tea and suddenly, Gen's world is turned upside down. Is it possible her baby is still alive? From that moment on, the reader is taken on a wild ride of emotion. The novel is set in the UK and the audio version is well-read by the narrator. Her flow is easy to follow and before I knew it I was speaking a right nice English accent myself. I would so like to give away the ending, but I can't. It's a shocker, one I NEVER saw coming. I was left flattened and wrung out and oh-so-sorry to see Close My Eyes end. If you liked Gone Girl you will LOVE Close My Eyes. Blurb It's been eight years since Geniver Loxley lost her daughter, Beth. Since that day, Gen has been floundering. While her husband Art builds his business reputation and their fortune, she can't let go of Beth. And then one day, everything changes. A strange woman shows up on Gen's doorstep, saying the very thing she longs to hear: that Beth is alive. That she is out there somewhere, waiting for Gen to find her ...It's insane. Unthinkable. But why would someone make up such a story? Ignoring the warnings of her husband and friends, Gen begins to hope - hope that quickly turns into fear and paranoia. With questions swirling around her head, Gen is determined to uncover the truth. But who can she trust? Why is Art so reluctant to get involved? To save his wife from further hurt? Or something much more sinister? Is Beth even really out there? And, if so, who is responsible for taking her? What is the truth about Beth Loxley? Happy Reading and you can pre-order now!
