Reading and Writing With One Hand in the Air #greatreads #YA #crime #rehab #tornrotatorcuff4/28/2014
As long as I pass the physical tomorrow and that is, of course, always a mystery with Crohn's disease, I get to have my rotator cuff surgically repaired on Thursday. And of course, the two tears and one bone spur are located in my right arm which means pain when holding a Kindle or book since my right arm is my dominant arm. So, I took the advice of an old friend to download Kindle for my Android phone. I made it much hard than it should have been and the most important thing I learned was to download the Kindle before the book. This helps enormously. I have three books I'm planning to read while recovering. Lucky's Charm, Lucky's Break, and Scan. I am looking forward to being rehabilitated as I get to catch up on all the books I haven't read while writing. Congrats on the new releases! Scan by Walter Jury, Sarah Fine Penguin Young Readers Group Putnam Juvenile This is a pre-release. The release date is officially May 1st. Blurb Tate and his father don’t exactly get along. As Tate sees it, his father has unreasonably high expectations for Tate to be the best—at everything. Tate finally learns what he’s being prepared for when he steals one of his dad’s odd tech inventions and mercenaries ambush the school, killing his father in the process and sending Tate on the run from aliens who look just like humans. Even with all he knows like how to defend himself with useful tools made out of bubblegum, Tate fears he’s still inadequate. With the help of his girlfriend and estranged mother, all Tate can really do is keep moving and ensure his father’s invention stays out of the hands of his pursuers and that his father didn’t die in vain. A riveting, fast-paced adventure, Scan is a clever alien thriller with muscle and heart. I LOVE crime novels so I'm really looking forward to the Lucky series. Blurb To protect her family and find a killer, Felicia "Lucky" Fascino assumed her adoptive father's identity and joined the network of moral assassins to finish the job he began. Eliminating the man responsible for murdering her mother has consumed her for the last five years. Completing the job is the only way Lucky and her family can return to a safe and normal life. Lucky's uncle, Stephen Chambers, hasn't come close to tracking the killer. He announces he's stepping down as her handler to concentrate on the investigation and names Elizabeth, his daughter, as successor. Keeping secrets is a family trait, and Elizabeth's addition to the business tests Lucky's ability to maintain the pretense that the job doesn't affect her despite the fact that all network hits are hardened criminals. While keeping her family at arm's length, Lucky begins to feel the weight of her career choice and reclusive lifestyle. Then a chance encounter with an enigmatic hit man during one of her jobs turns into a provocative and dangerous affair. Distracted by the secret trysts with Kenji Zinn and mounting tension within her family, Lucky starts to make mistakes that threaten her livelihood and almost claim her life. When her family is targeted, Lucky must make several rash decisions she believes can save them and preserve her own sanity. I will post the reviews as I read them. Hopefully, the pain won't be too bad and I'll get to enjoy a little relaxation.
