I was one of the few lucky enough to receive an uncorrected advance reading copy of "Blink of an Eye" by former Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen. The novel is due out in November of 2011 and if you are into politics both foreign and domestic and nuclear annihilation this is a must read book.
Drawn into the story from the very first page, Blink of an Eye is a riveting thriller where politics govern every thought and action. Each nuance has a secret meaning and people are never as they seem. Cohen is a superb writer as his previous novel, Dragon Fire, will attest to. Blink of an Eye is better yet. Best read with a bottle of wine and gloves (no finger biting allowed), Blink of an Eye will keep you on the edge of your seat. The book followed me everywhere as it isn't often I come across a novel so superbly well written. Sean Falcone, national security advisor to a president eerily like our current POTUS, is a likeable, intelligent human-being that is charged with seeking out the person or persons responsible for setting off a nuclear weapon, destroying Savannah Georgia. Throw in a love interest who just happens to be an Israeli spy and various political figures doing what they always do--mostly nothing--and you have everything you need for a suspense novel. As a writer myself, I couldn't help but wonder who his characters are based on. I find myself watching the news a bit more closely. Normally, for a review I tell about the story and give my opinion. However, with Blink of an Eye I hesitate to say more on the off chance I might ruin it for someone. Like I said, this is a great novel full of politics, intrigue, loyalty and love. It just doesn't get any better than this. Unless you throw in some dinosaurs. :) I just love dinosaurs. Comments are closed.
