I'm on vacation. A forced vacation that is. I've decided to take a week off to let my mind gel. Yesterday, on my way home from work, I wrote an entire chapter to the second book of Gemini Rising--in my brain. However, I didn't write it down. I've found that sometimes, putting my writing at arms length, generates those creative juices. My fingers get to itching, my brain to working, and my blood rushes. Then, when I put fingers to keyboard, the chapters literally run out of my hands like an electrical impulse.
Now that's what I call fun. I have added a new rock to my collection. My son moved up to the foothills and lives just two blocks away. I was strolling through his backyard when I saw it. About five feet long and four feet wide, a jumble of leaves had settled onto the ground. Only there was something strange about that grouping. Some of the leaves were indented. Whatever it was that lay beneath had been there a long time, and after a heavy rain, some of the leaves were a trifle slanted, giving an odd impression. My brain, always on alert when it comes to things buried, went nuts. Before I knew it, dressed in my work clothes, I hit the muddy ground, throwing dirt and leaves behind me as fast as possible. My heart jumped into my throat as I stood up and grinned, light-headed and delirious with joy. There, at my feet, lay one of the most beautiful grinding stones I have ever seen. Of course I can't move it to my house, but it's my rock just the same. After a little more digging we found the pestle and a little later, a fantastic piece of petrified wood. Another day later we found a beautiful snowflake obsidian ball, delicately carved to fit into a slingshot. The Maidu were known for their skill with slingshots. Since then, a novella has been playing around in my brain about a young Native American woman and her beau. I will write it someday. When my vacation is over. Check out my special links page. I've started to add links from people new to the Amazon Breakthough Novel Contest. They are worth checking out. As always, have a wonderful week Comments are closed.
