Today let's welcome, Emma Leigh Reed! First off, you have to check out her website. It's beautiful. You can find it here. It is simply stunning. Emma's latest novel, Mirrored Deception comes out today! She kindly agreed to answer the questions I submitted to her. However, since I was so taken with her book covers and the creativity behind the books, I thought I'd feature them first. Blurb: Jayla Ralston is running. After her apartment break in, she decided to get away from life and her overbearing twin sister. She finds the perfect Maine hide away to make some changes - The Cliffhouse Bed and Breakfast. It was perfect...until the phone calls resumed - kicking her paranoia into high gear. Trenton Montgomery is out for revenge. It has taken him ten years to return to his childhood home. After sneaking into an empty wing to focus on his clandestine investigation, a beautiful woman shows up - causing him to feel emotions, other than anger, for the first time in a long time. Reviewers have this to say about her first novel, Crashing Hearts: Wonderful and heart warming, Crashing Hearts by Emma Leigh Reed is a story of love and all the challenges that love will face. The love that develops between Kira and Grant will resonate with many. Reed allows us a glimpse of a mother that places the needs of her child above all. Crashing Hearts by Emma Leigh Reed is a discovery of love and the road to happiness. Blurb: Kira Nichols is raising her autistic son alone while dealing with the guilt she has lived with for years surrounding her husband's death. Grant Rutledge returns to his hometown to help take over the family business and to repair the spiked heel to his broken heart. When he runs into a beautiful, overprotective mother and her nonverbal son, sparks fly and his chance to be part of a loving family seems possible again. When Kira discovers a secret from Grant's past, she second guesses her heart. She must overcome her suspicions and haunting ghosts from the past in order to get what she wants - if it's not too late. To build the family Grant has always wanted, he has to learn to follow his heart. If you're in the mood for a great read, I'd definitely check out these two books! Thank you for joining me today, Emma. Don’t give away any secrets, but what’s your book about? In a nutshell – it’s about finding yourself regardless of where your past has taken you. You can have a terrible childhood or a wonderful childhood, but being able to find yourself as an adult can be the challenge. What inspired you to write Mirrored Deception? It’s a story that just came to me one day. Jayla is full of conflicted emotions over what her true desires are and how to get there. Something I can relate to. How did you come up with the title? My husband actually came up with the title. I was having trouble developing a title and we brainstormed, but he was the one that came up with Mirrored Deception. Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp? You have to follow your true desires. If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything about your book? I wouldn’t. I fell in love with Trenton, the hero. There is just so much I can relate to with Jayla, the heroine. Do you have plans for a new book? Is your book part of a series? Right now I’m working on Bridges Burned, which is a sequel to Crashing Hearts, which was released January 2012. How long did it take you to write your novel? It took me about a year and half to write Mirrored Deception, but over that year and half, I probably set it aside for about 8-9 months. What do you think makes a good story? Emotion. If you don’t have emotion in your writing that your reader can relate to, in my opinion, it’s not worth reading. What do you do when you are not writing? I have six children and a grandson. They keep me busy. And just recently, I have started the process of going back to school to finish up a degree in journalism. You are one busy woman! Do you have a day job as well? Right now, I work as a secretary in a dermatology office. What is your work schedule like when you're writing? I write on my lunch hour every day at the day job, and in the evenings. My best work, however, is usually done first thing in the morning. I write whenever I have a chance. Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing? Finding the time to write amongst life is always a challenge, but it’s something I work at doing because I love it. What does your family think of your writing? My family is very supportive. If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor? Barbara Delinsky. What book are you reading now? Silenced by Allison Brennan. Do you work with an outline, or just write? A little bit of both. I have a rough outline, and then start writing. There have been many times though when the writing has taken over going a totally different direction than the outline. How do you market your work? What avenues have you found to work best for your genre? Marketing is hard. I use social media a lot – Facebook, Twitter. I also have taken ads, word of mouth, blog tours. Anything I come across that has to do with marketing I will try. If it works, great. If not, it’s not something I will use again. Do you prefer e-books, paperbacks, or hardcover? I love my Nook, but I honestly prefer either a paperback or hardcover. I love holding a book in my hands. I don’t have a preference over a paperback or hardcover. Is there a particular movie that you preferred over the book version? The Firm by John Gresham. Fun Questions: If you were a Star Trek® [or Star Wars® ] character, which one would it be. Chewie. If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see play the lead role as you? Sandra Bullock. If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be? To be able to be in more than one place at a time. If you won $20 million in the lottery, what would you do with the money? Pay off all the bills, donate a good chunk of it to Autism Awareness, and open a battered women’s shelter. If you were a salad, what kind of dressing would you have? Sweet Onion. If you were a car, what kind would you be? MG convertible. White wine or red? White. Coffee or tea? Definitely coffee. Vanilla or chocolate ice-cream? Chocolate. Dogs or cats? Dogs. Sleep in or get up early? Get up early. Dark or milk chocolate? Dark. Yeah, me, too. Rocks or flowers? Flowers. Night or day? Night. Favorite color? Lavender or light coral. Crayons or markers? Markers. Pens or pencils? Pens. Thank you so much for visiting with me today. I wish you the very best on your writing career.
