I didn't review the novellas in the same order as the anthology, A Galactic Holiday. I put Sasha first because she is a fellow author at CMP and after our publishing house went through the hurricane, I'm doing what I can to promote our wonderful Crescent Moon Press. Please stop by and pay them a visit! When Sasha asked me to join her blog tour, I jumped at the chance. When she sent me the book(s) to review, the cover grabbed me and in I dove. Galactic Holiday can be bought as an anthology here or if you want to purchase the books by themselves, I've put the links inside each novellas name on the blurbs below. Review: 5 Chocolate Bars! A three part anthology, Galactic Holiday is a wonderful read for the holiday season. Part romance, part sci-fi, and part just plain fun doesn't do justice to the works these three women have created. Before I go on, I'd just like to say how nice it is to see women authors in the sci-fi field. Fast-paced and easy to read, the stories will suspend your belief system so you're able to drop right into each novella. Romantic with just the right spice and geekdom for us sci-fi bibliophiles, I promise you'll enjoy the read. While the styles are different, each novella can stand on its own. Rapid fire writing with lots of twists and turns, Galactic Holiday will keep your mind fully occupied until the end. What a great way to spend the holidays. A good anthology, a glass of wine, and chocolate. Who could ask for more? Galileo's Holiday Sasha can write, but best of all, she writes well. Professional, smooth, and captivating, her style will resonate with just about everyone. Even those not into sci-fi but prefer romance. It isn't easy to suspend a belief system, but Sasha manages it with uncompromising authority. A few paragraphs in and you will forget all about the real world and fall in love with some wonderful characters. Isn't that what a good read is all about? Book Blurb: Our feisty heroine, Riley, works as an ice miner in the far reaches of space. She likes being alone. Tough, confident, and happy with being a one woman show, she wants no one to mess with her independence. Then, her ship is raided and she needs the help she has always avoided. Her rescuers, a group of settlers on the icy planet, Galileo, try and draw her into their group, but Riley hangs back, unsure of them and her reactions. Until Leo enters the picture. As they prepare for the Galileo Holiday season, she is drawn into the warm family atmosphere and she begins to wonder if she really wants to be alone. Danger strikes when it is discovered that Leo is holding the cargo the raiders want. Will Riley risk it all to protect her friends? Will she find happiness with the one she loves? You'll have to read the anthology to find out! Winter Fusion Anna Hacket has a way with words. The story flows with ease and I loved her style. She is definitely on my to read list for future works. The story runs about 30,000 words--give or take a few-- but time flies when you're lost in another world with some very vivid characters. What amazes me is the amount of depth and how creative her imagination is in making other worlds. In my opinion, we need more sci-fi from women writers. This is a genre that should not be left to men. Book Blurb: Ex-space marine Savan Bardan survived the Galactic Wars to become the most ruthless trade negotiator in the galaxy. His planet needs energy to survive, and he'll do anything to close the deal for the Perman fusion crystals that can provide it—even if it means seducing his beautiful, infuriating opponent, a rival icier than her planet. Perma's top negotiator, Brinn Fjord, lost her father when Savan delayed her planet's Trade Guild membership years ago. She hates the handsome Rendarian and the planet he represents. She's determined to finish the deal and get rid of him as quickly as possible, so she can celebrate the holidays. But soon the rival negotiators are in a fight for their lives. Besieged by mysterious accidents and unforgiving weather, Brinn and Savan have no one to depend on but each other. As they put the past aside, they uncover a desire hot enough to melt ice, and Brinn discovers a secret that may keep them apart. How the Glitch Saved Christmas First off, I loved the title then I adored the novella. Stacy has a turn of phrase that is just plain wonderful. Her writing grabbed me and it was one of those books you hated to see end. From body modification principles all the way to androids glitches, Stacy put it together into a story that stands on its own. Book Blurb: Reina Vedette chose principle over position when the Chicago police department ordered her to accept performance-enhancing body modifications or lose her rank. Demoted to a level one detective, Reina's stuck chasing a bizarre, Grinch-in-reverse break-in case with fiery bod-mod enthusiast and level five top detective Edison Wicke. Wicke has had his eye on Reina for ages, and as the two of them hunt down the benevolent burglar, they take turns warming each other with body heat in the subzero Chicago winter. Despite professional friction and their opposing views on bod-modding, Reina soon has to admit that she and Wicke are perfect for each other. But when they track down their philanthropic quarry on Christmas Day, an unexpected glitch in a homemade android brings out Reina's emotional side, and she and Wicke must decide whether love between a Neo-Luddite and a "walking toaster" is a gift that either of them can give. Congratulations to these three wonderful women with talent enough to bring sci-fi romance to life. Thanks for letting me read your stories.
