I am living with PoTs and peripheral neuropathy of the vagus nerve which affects my heart, lungs, speech, blood pressure, and gastro-intestinal system. It isn't an easy life because I have Crohn's disease too. Keeping myself hydrated is a full time job. Hell, living is a full time job. Sadly, I asked people to share my news article (see below) on Facebook and only one person did. (Thank you Wendy) :)
This disorder needs to be highlighted because someone they love may be suffering with this. While PoTs can't be cured, you can get better and in some cases, PoTs can even go away. In the meantime, people may be suffering with what they think is an anxiety disorder when in fact it is very possible their autonomic system may be in revolt. It is so important because in my case, the peripheral neuropathy can be caught early enough so that people don't die from it. Again, you can't cure it, but you can, in some situations, slow the process down. Dysautonomia International reports that dysautonomia, an umbrella term used to describe a malfunction in the Autonomic Nervous System, can easily be diagnosed as anxiety or panic disorder. What is PoTS PoTs can be caused by anything that places the body under great stress from a virus to giving birth and some are speculating it may be autoimmune. The definition of PoTs is that while the blood pressure drops, the heart rate rises when one is taken from a lying down position to a standing position and fainting (on occasion) ensues. The heart rate overcompensates the low blood pressure by speeding up, desperately trying to get blood to the brain.
