I read my first adult book at the age of six and was hooked. I wish I could remember the title, but it had to do with Tibet, the Dali Lama, mystery, and intrigue. I was enthralled, mesmerized by far away places and mystical beings. After than, upon entering the first grade, I read everything I could get my hands on and by the age of seven I was checking out science books from the library, my first being the stages of larva for the butterfly. I have no idea now, why it was of such great interest then. Perhaps I saw a cocoon or a monarch butterfly that captured my attention.
My books were my prized possessions and I read anything and everything, including the encyclopedia. Nothing was safe from my hands and eyes. If it had letters I was reading. I learned about handsoap that was good for your face, toothpaste that polished silver, and mouthwash that could get you drunk. Not that I ever tried it, but if it was in writing, I believed every word. At eight I discovered volcanoes afterwhich the library was no longer safe from my active imagination and giddy hands. Oh, the absolute delight in discovering rocks that were liquid, gasses that turned a lovely shade of yellow when introduced to oxygen, and glaciers, mountains of ice that scoured out valley floors. Crescent Moon Press www.crescentmoonpress.com, my current publisher is all about fantasy, science fiction, and romance. What better place could I have found for my imagination? My fellow authors have penned delightful novels full of fairies, demons, and warlocks. Once such book recently grabbed my attention and I bring it to you here for your perusal: KISS OF BLARNEY by Penelope Marzec Purchase e-Book Purchase Print Genre: Fantasy ASIN: B004RR1E52 Length: Novel Publication Date: March 10, 2011 Cover art by Jeannie Ruesch When Ula's druidess is kidnapped by the evil Balor, the Irish princess must leave her secret cottage to seek help. And who better to help her locate the druidess than the Irish Wolfhound who just happens to be owned by the handsome man who saves her virtue at a pub? Shay Devlin wants nothing to do with the beautiful Ula--especially not once he realizes she's out to steal his unruly dog, Bran--but there's no way he and his geise will allow him to turn her out into the snow, alone and unprotected. Too bad everything about the mysterious dog snatcher tempts him to break every rule of his sacred code. Though their love is forbidden--for prophecy says Ula will marry a man with black eyes and Shay's are blue--they battle the druid who wants not only Ula, but the kingdom she is destined to rule. _____________________________ Now that's exciting. You've got druids, a handsome man, love, and prophecy. I've always loved the Irish and not just because I married one. My in-laws tell me they were kicked out of Ireland for stealing sheep. I don't know if that's true or not, but it always makes for a good laugh. I'm not crazy about mutton though. My husband's grandmother cooked it all the time along with a little mint to help the meat go down. Boy, did it need the mint. Tough chewing too. The first time I met my husband's aunts they were in my mother-in-law's back yard. On a hot summer day, dressed in black from head to toe, with hats and gloves on, their first question was, "Do you have a little Irish in ya?" Fortunately I did and they said it would be my saving grace. God bless the Irish. They are a wonderful and amazing people. Happy reading! 5/31/2011 10:36:11 am
