Blood tests, more blood tests, then the phone call. "Um, I made a mistake. You have to fast for that one test this morning because it has to be frozen inside of 3 hours and we don't do that here. You'll have to go to the lab over on..." Seems kinda funny to blog about Crohn's when you're a romance author. But I did promise. So, here goes another promise. As soon as I finish the Gemini Series, I am starting another series called Redemption. The second book in the series will feature a paranormal police detective who has Crohn's disease. 10% of all proceeds from the Redemption series will go to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. That's a huge commitment. I have an author friend who donates 10% of all her proceeds to cancer. That's where I got the idea. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. At least it did me. And to write about a detective with Crohn's, now that should be funny! Just imagine all the situations she'll get into. Stop for rant: Why can't we have a sexier name for our disease? Not that cancer is sexy. It's not and neither is Crohn's. They are both battles that require tough women and men. Children, too. Even babies. *sob* While the Crohn's continues to haunt me, right now I'm trying to balance my blood sugar. One flour tortilla can send it over 200. Not good. Bread is my worst enemy. Flour actually. Unfortunately, the diet for Crohn's is low residue and the diet for Diabetes is high reside. I'm damned before I begin. But I'm not complaining. My heart rate is holding steady at 93 beats a minute. It'll blip up to 107 once in a while, but that is one hell of a sight better than 150. Yesterday, my blood pressure was 87/65. Talk about sleepy. Lethargic. But I did do an hour on my stationary bike later on in the afternoon. *yawn* I haven't mentioned the blood sugar drops. Normal is around 80, but mine decided to test the lows at 52. No wonder I felt funny. Scared at the reading, I yelled at my husband, "I need to eat!" Clueless, he screamed back, "What do you want me to do about it?" If you're not feeling well and need a good book to take your mind off your troubles, not that mine aren't great you know, I recommend The Last Keeper's Daughter. It's really good. I've just a few chapters left and it has obsessed me over the last three days. I saved it to my computer intending to download it to my Kindle, however I haven't wanted to take the time. Consequently, my eyes ache from computer screen glare. The Last Keeper's Daughter is a murder mystery, paranormal romance, all mixed into one great book. Where else can you get a two-fer? The characters are believable, the world building is fascinating, and the writing is wonderful. Perfect for a sick day, and the vampire is so damn well you get what I mean. On that note, I shall head back to my PDF and finish the book. Happy reading! (((hugs))) Louann

NOT my real name. You're brave to talk about it. I refuse to.

To: Person Without A Name: It's not so bad once you get used to it. *grin* Once you start to talk it becomes easier. I have no problem telling people, "Excuse me? Gotta run to the loo." Or, "Excuse me? Gotta visit the porcelain idol." Thank you Bill Cosby. 2/23/2013 12:53:06 am
Hi Louann! My name's Jena... I discovered your blog (and this post in particular) through a tweet. Just wanted to introduce myself and say thank-you for this post! As a fellow author with Crohn's, I know where you're coming from—and I know just how much courage it takes to talk openly about what you're going through. It's wonderful that you'll be contributing some of your profits to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation! Such a fantastic gesture... And one that I hope to do myself, one day. Best of luck with the new series—and with the tricky diet! Hope you find yourself in remission soon!

Hi, Jenna. Thanks for stopping by! I'm glad you found my site. I love hearing from others that struggle with the disease and really enjoy hearing from authors who have Crohn's. If you pop back by, let us know what kind of books you write and your website. Comments are closed.
