Welcome to my weekend reads. Saturday, I plan on curling up with Demons of the Sun where Persephone discovers she's half demon. Not an auspicious beginning to a mythology book, but she'll soon realize the power it brings. Why don't you grab a copy and join me! Demons of the Sun by Cindi Madsen Purchase e-Book Purchase Print Genre: Paranormal ISBN-13: 978-1937254773 Length: Novel Publication Date: August 2012 Cover art by Taria Reed Persephone didn't ask to be the guardian of Hades Dagger, an artifact Hades forged to turn demons into daywalkers and wants back. She didn't ask for the demon blood running through her veins that allows her to touch the thing, either. And she definitely didn't ask for Jax, a cocky Warrior, to barge into her life and proclaim himself her bodyguard. Suddenly, she has to deal with all three, along with an increase in demon attacks and the fact members of the Order of Zeus keep turning up dead. When demons tell Persephone that she's one of them, she's appalled. And a little intoxicated by the power she feels when they call her their queen. Telling Jax about her demon side might turn him away from her forever, but something bad is brewing, and if Persephone doesn't figure out something, and soon, she'll be responsible for unleashing Hell on Earth. Excerpt Copyright © 2012 Cindi Madsen All rights reserved — a Crescent Moon Press publication As they ate dinner, Persephone looked across the table at Jax, and thought about how much her life had changed since he’d shown up. She didn’t feel so lonely anymore. It was a relief to be able to talk about her Sentry job and what really happened to her parents. Training had also made her feel more secure in her calling, like she actually might have a chance. In fact, she found herself looking forward to their nights together. Plus, he knew how to cook, which had added variety to her meals. She smiled a lot more lately, too. “What?” Jax asked. “Nothing.” Since he’d caught her staring, she searched for something to say. “Burgers were a good idea.” “Glad you like them.” One corner of his mouth kicked up. “Couldn’t have done it without your excellently sliced cheese and tomatoes.” “Are you mocking me? Because as you pointed out, I’m good with a knife, and that might not end up so well for you.” Feigning innocence, he threw a hand to his chest. “Me? Mock the dangerous Persephone Katsaros? I wouldn’t dare.” “Good. And don’t you forget it.” The words would’ve been a lot more threatening if she could’ve kept a smile from breaking free. Persephone scooted out her chair, grabbed her empty plate, and headed into the kitchen. She placed her dish in the dishwasher, then, noticing the mayo was still out, put it away. She spun away from the fridge and almost slammed into Jax, who was coming from the opposite direction. She grabbed his arms, barely keeping herself from falling. “Whoa.” He placed his hands on her hips to steady her. “Sorry. I didn’t realize you were going to do a ninja move away from the fridge.” “You know me, I don’t mess around, even when I’m doing the dishes. Not to mention this kitchen’s so tiny, it’s almost impossible not to run into you.” A flirtatious grin curved his lips. “I say we start hanging out in the kitchen more, then.” Her heart skipped a beat as she stared up at him. The way he was looking at her left little doubt about what he was thinking. And now she was thinking about it, too. All the air went out of the room as he slid his hands behind her, pulled her against him, and lowered his head toward hers. ------------------------------------------------------------ *fans self* Well, that ought to keep me busy over the weekend. Next is an interview with Cindi. I hope you enjoy it. Hi, Cindi and thanks for taking part in my weekend reads. So, how long does it take you to write a novel? Pretty fast. It usually takes me four to six weeks to write draft one, then another month to do drafts two & three, where I consider it good enough to be seen by another person. That's fast. If you don't mind me asking, what do you think makes a good story? I'm all about the romantic tension. I love a good plot and if there are twists even better, but I'll stick with anything if I love the characters, and if those characters have sparks flying between them, even better. What about when you are not writing, what do you love to do? Usually I try to catch up on reading, dance (in the privacy of my own home), go out to eat, watch movies, and I love to spend time with my family, including my extended family. Do you have a day job as well? I try to balance mommyhood & writing. My two oldest are in school, but my 3 year old is still at home and I have to take writing breaks to play army guy with him now and then to keep him happy Oh, my. I remember those days. What is your work schedule like when you're writing? I'm usually at my computer off and on all day, squeezing an hour in here and there when I can. My goal is 2k words a day, no matter what. Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing? The end of the middle. It's when everything's starting to come together but it's not time for the end, end & I usually get stuck around there. I think that's where a lot of us get stuck. What does your family think of your writing? They're super supportive, though I think they sometimes feel a little ignored. Yeah, mine, too. My husband will whine and that's my cue to close up shop. And he's no kid. What books have influenced you the most? The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Frankenstein, I love Greek Mythology, Anne of Green Gables, and Jane Eyre Jane Eyre. Once of my favorites. If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor? My critique partners are fabulous. Don't know where I'd be without them. What book are you reading now? I just finished Enshadowed by Kelly Creagh. It's the second Nevermore book and it was amazing! Do you work with an outline, or just write? I just sit down to write. Outlines feel confining to me and my brain revolts against the idea. Sometimes that means I do a lot of re-writing, but it works for me. Thank you so much for being here today, Cindi. Happy reading, everyone! (((hugs))) Louann Comments are closed.
