Before I get to the next great author at CMP, I thought I'd share a point of view that will mean little to you, but much to the person to which it is directed. Definition of Cognitive-dissonance: The feeling of psychological discomfort produced by the combined presence of TWO OR MORE conflicting thoughts in one's mind. Example: We assume we are SAFE. We assume others in our life are SAFE. When we discover that those we thought safe were not safe--in a profound state--we must align the two thoughts. This can be anything from cancer to abuse by a trusted family member or friend. We take for granted that doctors will keep us safe. We assume our children or grandchildren are safe. Once an opposing view meets an accepted view the emotional upheaval is a tsunami of emotion. One system must fail. People we believed were to be trusted are not and our fail safe system breaks apart until a new one is formed. Decisions are made in haste--MUST--be made in haste. There are no other options available. Those that are not safe must be made safe as fast as possible through any means available. This may mean stepping on people's toes, hurting feelings, generating an influx of cognitive-dissonance in many people at one time. Still, it must be done. And for that--I am truly sorry. But the loved-one, the cherished one, MUST BE MADE SAFE. Those that know will understand. My treatise done, I shall move on to my fellow authors. LOL Cognitive-dissonance! Studied that for my Ph.D. Yeah, sometimes we have to do things we don't want to do to keep other people safe. :(
