Congratulations to Kyla and Beth, winners of A Shadow of Time give-a-way over at Goodreads. Over 1100 people signed up to win a copy and I'd like to thank them all for participating. I have had the best time with this contest. I've made new friends and discovered a wealth of information on all the books I love. In addition you can join groups, talk about the books you are reading, and just plain have fun. It's a lot like FB as you can comment, friend, and like people, but it's all about books, which is freakin' awesome. Since I used Goodreads to search out some of my favorite apocalyptic books, I thought I share my favs with you. So here goes: 1. Stranger in a Strange Land, by Robert Heinlein: It's the story of Valentine Michael Smith, a human, but one who was born and raised on Mars. He is sent back to Earth and eventually transforms our culture. He's all about 'grocking' which you will come to understand if you read the book. 2. Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand: Another cult classic, Atlas Shrugged is a masterpiece of societal collapse and renewal. While Ayn was an atheist her novel has spiritual overtones. 3. The Stand, by Stephen King: What can I say? Probably the best apocalyptic novel of all time. 4. Earth Abides, by George Stewart: If you haven't read this, you should. A plague has descended at the same time one man is bitten by a snake. The venom makes him immune to the disease and when he wakes up, he discovers that almost all of humanity has died. And lastly, my own book, Gemini Rising, an apocalyptic novel about the end times and how one woman changed the world. Book Two of the series is almost finished. I enjoyed writing this novel as much as I enjoyed reading the ones above. Not that I would ever compare myself with my favorite authors. I stand in awe of them all. *hugs* Louann Comments are closed.
