Last Friday, I decided I would have the kids over for a last barbeque on Saturday then set aside Sunday to relax and read. The word relax often enters my mind accompanied by beautiful images of lying atop an incredibly soft bed while reading, relaxing, munching on ice cream, malt balls and potato chips. Well, we know that's not possible, but one can dream. By the time the barbeque was over, the fibro acted up (I feel like such a wuss) so I headed off to bed. I was still aching pretty bad Sunday morning, but decided to let it be as I had two great short stories to read to take my mind off my troubles. I popped a few Advil which is a nono with Crohn's but at that point I didn't care anymore. I just wanted to enjoy myself. I wasn't in the mood to steady a laptop while lying in bed (I secretly wanted to fall asleep) so I thought I would use my phone. Problem was, the files were in Mobi and my phone didn't have a program for it. I went to the net and found a great free reader called AlReader. Darn thing worked the first time I tried it and it was so easy to download and start reading. In addition, you can change the back lighting to make it easier on your eyes. ![]() Once I was settled, I opened my new e-reader and began the journey into the lives of... Blurb: Thulu & La Fi have inherited an old, furnished Victorian. What they weren't expecting was that the furnishings included a ghost. Usually, the Thulukans are happy to take on supernatural clients for their detective agency. But there’s something about Darla Redding that bothers La Fi - and with good reason. They discover that Darla has a much darker past than hinted at by her “normal” life. She’s definitely not a ghost they want haunting them. So, if they want to be rid of their unwelcome house ghost, Thulu and La Fi need to solve her murder. “Unwanted Ghost” is the second prequel novelette to Relics in the Modern Magics series. End of Blurb Generally, I can read for awhile on my phone or computer but then I have to stop because my eyes hurt. Sometimes, Crohn's irritates my eyes so I have to be very easy on them. However, with Unwanted Ghost, I had the assurance it was a short story and by being able to change the back light on my phone, it became an easy read. Now back to Unwanted Ghost's 5 Star Review Unwanted Ghost is a well-written short story, a novelette if you will, that includes Relics characters, Thulu and La Fi Thulukan. The Thulukan's meet in college, La Fi can see and hear ghosts, while Thulu can 'find' things and sees ghosts, but cannot hear them. They marry and set up shop as Paranormal Detectives whose only clients are ghosts in need of assistance. They are paid by the things La Fi and Thulu find, like boxes in the walls containing ????? And dead bodies found ????? One of their payments comes by way of an inheritance. An old Victorian replete with dust, bugs and mysterious beings that go bump in the night. Which is how they meet the ghost who haunts the Victorian and refuses to leave. One of the agreements La Fi and Thulu make is that they will NOT bring their work home from the office. Which means only one thing. They have to find the murderer of this Unwanted Ghost. Unwanted Ghost is a great read, short and fun, and easy on the eyes. The writing is wonderfully paced and you will soon lose yourself in a sweet little book that is well worth the time and the money. Just don't expect to know (at least right away) what the hidden box contains or how the body down the street got there! *** One thing I would like to make note of, if you don't mind is, if a book rates a 1 or 2 star or even a 3 star (on occasion) I won't publish a review because it creates too many bad feelings. Now, if the author wants a critique to use in bettering the book, I'm good with that on a private basis. I'm just not into leaving scathing reviews for anyone. It doesn't promote world peace at all. In any case, to answer a question from an interested reader, that's the reason you generally see only 4 and 5 star reviews on my website. (((hugs))) Louann
