The Specific Carbohydrate Diet

Note to Self: Never, ever schedule a colonoscopy/endoscopy for after 12 noon.

<----- My first attempt at an SCD  cream cheese pie. Not too bad, though the taste is just short of awwwffffuuuulll.   Of course, it doesn't help that I made it the day before prep. Now just the thought of it--and the pea soup--makes me sick. And I can't tell you how much I enjoyed that pea soup while it was going down.

I'm sticking to the diet and up until yesterday was starting to feel good. I'm also down another ten pounds which is great. Had a little scare last week. Turns out I can drop one of my blood pressure pills. Yep, no stress from gas (the first symptom to disappear) and NO PAIN.

It took desperation to get me here. I'm not saying the diet is a cure or that it will stop all inflammation, but I will tell you straight up that just doing away with two of my biggest stressers has done me wonders. The main symptom (D) hasn't gone away, but I understand that takes time. The diet is hard, you have to kiss carbs good-bye and for me, the desert chocolate lover, that was a huge sacrifice. I simply couldn't take the pain anymore and HAD to take my life back into my own hands.

I have also decided not to up my Humira to once a week. The risk isn't worth it, especially if I can control some of the issues through diet alone. Of course, I haven't told my doc yet. I'll see him when the results of the colonoscopy/endoscopy come in.

I was up at four am, and I've an hour and a half before heading to the hospital. So, I'm going to sign off and take a short nap. I leave you with one thought: I wish I hadn't wasted the last seven years trying to solve my problem with drugs. Help was right in front of me. I just didn't want to make the sacrifice.
