A Writer's Life Interrupted: Artists Are Not Supposed to be Sane #crohns #ibd #uc

That's why God gave me Crohn's Disease. I knew there had to be a reason.

In my humble opinion, writers are a mixture of artistry and intellectualism. We not only paint pictures of our worlds, we have to explain them. Sometimes we do this well and sometimes we don't.

Poets are even more artistic as they can take the world, break it down into four or five stanzas, and wala a condensed version of artistic intellectualism. Primo facto perfect if the poet is good enough.

Unlike artists and even some poets, writers have specific rules we have to follow. Spelling, sentence structure, language, nuance, and let's face it, the story has to make some kind of sense. Then there's the plot line, the characters, the emotion, the adverbs, the verbs, etc., etc.

Once the writer has all these rules down, then they must write.

I literally sit at my desk and think. I can run through fifty different emotions in a day of writing.  On a bad day, it can be a bit nerve wracking, but for the most part it's more like therapy. Plus, it tends to make your characters real. And it can be draining, but if you love to write there is nothing more rewarding than a day at your computer.

In October, the MUSE begins. It's a week-long FREE online conference for writers and readers. I'm teaching a class on being an emotive writer so I've been studying the subject. Like all things, being over analytical can spoil the process of creative writing. And if you're even a tad bit obsessive-compulsive you're lost in examining every nook and cranny. Which is where my head has been the last few days.

Since today is Crohn's Thursday, A Writer's Life Interrupted, my update is GREAT! I feel pretty darn good. I think the gastritis is getting better, but I'm too scared to eat anything harsh to test it out. I've only had a few esophageal spasms thank heavens.  Of course, sticking to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet is still paramount since it is the only thing that keeps me going. I had a bunch of labs done last week and my doc  called me at home to say they were fantastic. Actually, she used the word awesome.

I find that so odd as I never ate meat before. Oh, perhaps I'd have a bit here and there, but I was not someone you would call a meat eater. I was a pasta eater if anything. And of course, my labs were horrible. Now I just eat meat and veggies and my labs are great. Including cholesterol.

Go figure.

(((hugs)))
