I woke up Saturday morning to a robin beating its head against one of my bedroom windows. Trying to sleep late, snuggled deep into my pillow, my husband shouts, "It's the birds!" Groggy, I rouse myself. "Huh?" "The birds! You gotta write a sequel!" "A sequel to what?" "Get up!" Rising from my bed, I head over to the sliding glass door. Outside, is our resident robin (he likes to build nests on top of our deck light) beating his head against one of the spare bedroom windows. Still half asleep, I'm shocked when he heads over to the kitchen window and does the same thing. Then he flew off. "Can I get some cof..." I ask my husband. Suddenly, the bird's back for more self-mutilation. I slide open the door and wave my hands. "What are you doing?" I yell at him. "You have babies to take care of." Off he flew and hasn't been back. Someone told me that birds will do that. They see themselves in the window and attack, thinking it's another bird. That's all fine and good, but I couldn't see my reflection in the window when I tried. Shortly after, we head down to the dock. The thunder heads are looming and I'm depressed because it's too cold to swim. Suddenly, out of nowhere, starlings start circling. Not just a few, not just a lot, but bunches of them. They swirl out of nowhere, over my head, around my shoulders. By this time, I'm freaked out. Eventually they just flew away, but birds are creeping me out. If I don't see another one for awhile, that's all well and good. Impossible, but one can dream. The following day, my grandson Jack, pulls a catfish out of our lake. Now catfish aren't pretty anyway, but this thing was humongous. And it was pregnant. Fortunately, the thing kept its eggs. However, this fish is a danger to small animals and children. To my family--be forewarned. The weekend was pretty awesome. There's nothing I like better than having my kids and grandkids around me. The noise, the giggles, the laughter is like a boon to the soul. I am so grateful for them. So even though we had birds bashing themselves, strange fish pulled out of the lake, and lots of thunder and lightening, Memorial Day came after all. Next up is a cover reveal for one of my favorite authors. Looking forward to June 1st when she'll get to share it with the world. Thank you for reading.
