Amazon is rolling out a subscription service for just 9.99 per month. Over 600,000 books/audiobooks are now available. However, not all e-books/audiobooks are available under the service. Subscribers can click on the read for free to start reading a book once they sign up and log in. In addition, for the same 9.99 a month you can listen to or read your chosen titles for as long as you want. For a readaholic like me, this is be a blessing. Not so for my books. Apparently, not all e-books are created equal.
However if you are interested, the subscription service is available in the United States beginning Friday (today) and a free 30-day trial can be accessed at on Amazon's website. You can get the kids version for 2.99 here. Here is a link to their announcement. I imagine having your book on Kindle Unlimited will be up to the publisher. For now, I haven't heard anything from mine, but I will be calling/e-mailing. From a quick glance through the new website, I see the classics, kids books, Lord of the Rings, etc. And I have to admit, I want the audio version like right now. My eyes get tired after staring at a computer screen all day, but I got into listening after being asked to review Gone Girl audio, my fav summer read year before last, I believe. Something to think about though, is if you want to try a new author's book all you have to do is point and click. If you don't like it, you can delete it and move onto something else at no extra charge. Heck my e-books sell for 5.99. For a few bucks more any reader will have unlimited access to over 600k novels. Just not to my book. I bet CreateSpace authors will have access to Kindle Unlimited right off the bat. It is possible to put small publishers out of business with something like this. However, it is a smart business model. 7/18/2014 11:00:53 pm
I'm curious to see how this shakes out. As a reader, I think it's brilliant. Sort of like subscribing to cable TV. But, I'm not sure my books will be included. Hmm. I wonder if you self publish with Amazon - will your books be included? Lots of questions.

Me, too. Sorry, I didn't see your response earlier. I don't think our books will be available either. I've been searching around and haven't been able to find the criteria Amazon uses. If you see anything, please let me know. Comments are closed.
