Having just finished my third book, REDEMPTION, I'm taking the week off to breathe a little before the big edit. My grandkids are romping around the house, sleeping at the foot of my bed on the floor, and seeing who can stay up the latest. So far, Jack, my eleven year-old has won by making it to 4 a.m.
I love the fourth of July. We have an old fashioned picnic at the park followed by balloon toss, bingo, boats on parade, skiing, boarding, boating, swimming and napping. Lake Wildwood puts on a host of events to make the day enjoyable for everyone.
Last year, Joshua, age 7, won the balloon contest. I have his picture as the screen saver on my computer. Those dark Asian eyes glint with delight as he holds up his prize. Much like the kid in a Christmas Story, Joshua beams at a red and yellow gun that holds promise and excitement.
Shortly after, grandma gets shot in the butt. But, oh, well, it's all for fun.
After a dinner of steaks and hotdogs, we spread out the blanket under the stars and enjoy the fireworks that run for almost 45 minutes. By the time they're done, we're exhausted and ready to head home. After a 15 hour day at the park, sunburned, and stuffed to the brim, it's time for bed.
But it isn't like that for everyone. REDEMPTION is based on a true story about a young man, born clairvoyant, who gets mixed up in the drug trade. Writing this book has been an adventure into a world I never knew existed. For example:
Many companies in the Bay Area hire illegals with forged identity documents, but what surprised me was the unions and our government are not only aware of it, but encourage it.
You see, when illegals are hired, unions get to keep the health and welfare money, the Feds and State get to keep the social security taxes along with FICA and the rest and the illegals can never make a claim on the money because, why? They're illegal!
A few years later they are picked up by ICE, given a free trip back to Mexico where they visit with their families. Shortly after, they cross the Arizona border (some with drugs strapped to their backs) and head back to the Bay Area to start all over again.
And this has been going on for years! Many illegals work 40 hour weeks and get paid for 25. When I lost my temper over this, I was told, "Don't you understand? The illegals keep the companies going. Without them, we can't compete."
And it only gets worse. Cops let drug dealers out of jail and send them back to the streets, supplied with various narcotics, by the very people sworn to protect us. The dealers sell it to adults, children, and anybody else who is in need. When pressed, this one particular officer said, "That's impossible. Dealers can only sell when an officer is present."
Give me a freakin' break!
Like you're going to trust a dealer to only sell drugs when he/she has an officer present? Are you out of your mind? Do we live in a world without common sense?
There's a reason the borders aren't closed, there's a reason they allow drug dealers back on the streets, and there's a reason Bloomberg reported that Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and the now defunked Wachovia is being investigated for laundering money from Mexican drug cartels
I tell you this, if the American public doesn't wake up soon, what lies in the future will be mighty grim.
