First off, I am not shopping on Thanksgiving.
Secondly, I plan on having turkey left overs later into the evening.
Thirdly, I do plan on tasting some pie. Not a lot, just a little. And some dressing.
Fourthly, we will miss my mother-in-law who passed in July. Just thinking about her marshmallow covered yams had me in tears, but it is the way of the world. Her memory will be with us. I plan on using her silver and her turkey platter which matches the hot plate she bought me years ago. There will be a little new and a little old and probably that silver creamer I found at an antique sale a year or so ago.
Lastly, I give thanks for my family. We sometimes have our misunderstandings, but I am so blessed. With seven grandkids, starting out with five grandsons, I didn't think I'd ever be able to do girl stuff again. But the last two were girls so I am back into the game with Barbie dolls, baby dolls, and Pinky-Pie and Rainbow Dash of My Little Pony fame. And let us not forget the preteen angst of an eleven year old.
On Friday, my grandson Jack Lutz is in the Livermore Matador's high school football play offs in Concord. I wish my husband was here so I could rattle off Jack's stats, but he isn't and I don't have a clue. I do know the Matadors are winning but the game Friday night with Concord is suppose to be tough. I have my blankets laid out, leather gloves in the car waiting and am thinking of buying a new coat. One son and two grandsons are going with us while the other son and his wife will meet us at the stadium. The last time we did this we learned a very important lesson. Bring something to sit on. Those steel benches get mighty cold and hard.
On Saturday I will drag out my Christmas decorations and up will go the nativity scene, my Santa Claus that has seen better days and since my husband put the lights up on Monday, I won't even have to go outside. I will hang the stockings and listen to Christmas music and remember Christmas' from the past. I always had the family over on Christmas Eve while my mother-in-law did Christmas morning and my sister-in-law Christmas dinner. I miss those days.
That leaves Sunday where I will finish off the left overs and take a nap hoping to gear up for the Christmas season and work the next day. So until then,
Have a Happy and Thankful Thanksgiving Day.
