Bella is much better. We are a week in after eye removal and she is down to one and one half Tramadol and her anti glaucoma drops for her semi-good eye. She definitely has reduced vision in her working eye, but she does see. We have to watch her carefully so she doesn't hurt the surgical site.
Her last Prednisone was yesterday and she is spending the day sleeping. We are still limiting her exercise per the vet's orders, but we did take her for a short walk today. I swear, you have never seen such happiness.
I am having issues with a few things though. Last week a friend (she is the queen of dog rescue around here) asked me what medication Bella was on. I told her and she became upset. She told me two of the medications were never to be taken together Deramaxx and Prednisone.
She insisted on me calling the vet immediately. I did and she was right. I have no idea why no one told us and the vet will get a piece of my mind when her stitches come out. Apparently it affects the digestive tract which explains the diarrhea.
My second problem is the surgery site. In my opinion it looks horrible and I am not alone. The incision wraps around her eye socket and is seriously large compared to other pictures I have seen. You can see one below. Bella's incision is sickle shaped while all the dogs I have looked at go side to side.
Perhaps I am over reacting, but Bella deserves better. A longer incision means more healing time. Maybe it will get better but I dunno.
I should have let the specialist do it and I kick myself. But it wasn't my call since Bella gets her medical care through The Ppast Foundation. A nonprofit my friend set up before she died and left me her dogs.
I remain optimistic. Bella is a love and once all the medication wears off she will be back to her old self. When all is said and done that is the most important part after all.
