I say, "I don't know what to blog about."
Husband answers, "You have to speak the truth."
" Huh?"
"When you write you have to speak the truth. Especially when you blog."
"Um. Okay. What should I say?"
"The truth."
"What kind of truth?"
"Your truth. Sometimes when I read your blog I don't think it's your truth."
Having a thrice-weekly blog can be intimidating. Sometimes, I am at a loss for words. When I ask other bloggers about how they feel, they too, run out of things to say. So when my husband tells me to speak the truth, I think, perhaps, it should be less about truth and more about views. My truth may be seen differently through another person's eyes. Obviously, what was my truth, he didn't see as mine. So, the bottom line is truths cannot truly be shared because my truth belongs to me and other people have their own point of view.
Take, for example, the color of my house. I see gray and my husband sees beige. I tend to blame him because everyone knows color-blindness only happens to the male of the species.
Right?
Or even the fact that while my sister-in-law's house is perfectly landscaped, mine is perfectly wild. Oh, I have a few boulders around for effect, but mostly, it's just wild. I live in the foothills so I keep our outdoor space free for the animals that life there. Squirrels, Blue Jays (see my wild pet Boo Jay above), deer, lost mountain lions and cute skunks and raccoons visit my place often, while my sister--in-law has been known to stand on her porch waving her hands and screaming, trying to scare the animals away. It is a fruitless pursuit because the deer will return and eat her landscape. It is inevitable. On the other hand, I'm sorry she spent so much money to have a sculpted lawn and attendant brush and trees.
Another truth might be my striped curtains in the living room. Now, I don't know a single person who has striped curtains but me, and I think they're beautiful. Others think they are unusual. I think they're wrong.
This is also true of books. When Gemini Rising first came out, I didn't make a big deal of it being a series. One woman left me a 3 star review who said it would have been 5 stars if she'd known it was the beginning of a series. I thought the ending spoke of the next book, but she saw it differently than me.
Before I get too bogged down in truths that are not really truths but points of view, I will end this blog. Already I've a headache, right between my eyes. Truth or view, the pain is still insufferable. I'm off now for an aspirin, wishing you all a great start to a wonderful week.
