There is a reason I am not a publisher. See the cover above? Took me three days, SEVERAL redos, until I finally came to acceptance... and I still don't love. I like it, but I don't love it. Still, it will have to do because no one is going to buy a series of short horror stories so I'd better come up with a cover that I can at least like.
And let me tell you about using KDP, Kindle Direct Publishing. I know they hate me. They have to, as I've published and re-published, and re-re-published until at the 4th re-published I just had to accept it, too. KDP has been great about putting up the republished version, well, at least until the 4th, but this time I am going on a full 24 hours and the new published version still isn't ready. I can't imagine how many 404 pages I've left in the Internet sphere.
Most of my problems were formatting issues. Every time I changed the cover I had to change the book so I had multiple re-writes with the wrong cover and visa versa. Every time I changed the interior I would find that a line or paragraph I loved in a previous version was not the right one any longer. Simply put, I can't make up my mind on anything.
I cannot even imagine doing this for an entire book. You'd have to be nuts or perhaps not as OCD as I am. I have discovered I need someone else to tell me I'm done or I'll be reediting for the rest of my life.
To those authors that self-publish, I bow before your expertise. You are a far far greater person than me.
(((hugs)))
