I am catching up with my kids books so here is another which should be available tomorrow. I have two more to go and then it's back to work on the third book in the Gemini series. I was reading how authors should stick to one genre but it just isn't in me. I love writing kids books. Really. It makes me smile AND it makes me happy. I also love sci-fi, horror, and the paranormal. What is an eclectic person like me to do? I suppose I could have a ton of different personas but I would lose track.
Today is also the start of my week long vacation. Reno tomorrow, back home, then off into the desert with the husband and dogs. I promised my gkid Dylan to bring him back some awesome finds. Since he's taken all my amethyst I hope to find something of value to replace my lost gems.
I went to his open house last night because his dad, our son, was driving his mother to the airport where she's off to visit relatives. Dylan's classroom simply rocked. His teacher built a giant banyan tree that reached up to the ceiling and spread across the entire classroom. On top of that were projects you would not believe for a second grade class.
What was so impressive was his goal of what do you want to be when you grow up essay. The answer?????
So excited here...
A PALEONTOLOGIST!
My heart melted AND IT GETS BETTER.
"Hey, grandma. Want to know what Allie wants to be?"
"Of course," I answered.
"An archaeologist."
And she's only six!
"Dylan," I said. "You can keep the amethyst. Just make sure you encourage Allie all you can."
I was the happiest a grandmother could be. I have my oldest in college in Texas, a seventeen year old facing some MAJOR competition wrestling in Reno tomorrow (and we are not even discussing what a formidable football player he is), a fourteen year old going to early college, an eleven year old at the top of her class (honors program), an eight year old that wants to be a paleontologist and a six year old who wants to be an archaeologist. Even if they decide to be accountants or doctors, last night was the best any grandmother could hope for. I am so proud of all of them.
