You have to love the jacket, right? The book is as good as the cover and is as intricately designed. Imagine worlds where clockwork runs society without missing a beat. I can only imagine the plotlines where the author thought up the gadgets and gizmos that run his amazing world.
The Clockwork Detective
Strong and courageous, Detective Aubrey Hartmann rocks the constabulary with her dedication, intelligence, and determination. She carries a boatload of medals, thinks like a genius, and solves the impossible crimes. Her missing leg, attained in the Imperial battlefield is made of clockwork, and other than a few twinges our detective sets the world of crime on its ear with her, and I quote, 'fearsome reputation'. I will add well deserved too.
Lighter than air airships float through the skies while magical faes intertwine within the clockwork world. A druwyd is murdered and in order to avoid an all-out war with the faes, Detective Hartman is pulled away from her trip home and is sent to deal with magical beings who have the power to destroy everything she believes in. In The Clockwork Detective, magic meets clockwork with elegance and intelligence. Her protagonist is her equal or is he? He could be good or maybe bad, but that is for the reader to juggle as the book rages on. The Clockwork Detective is a fast read, one you won’t want to put down until you are done.
I am truly amazed at the writing talent of R.A. McCandless. His attention to detail is spot on and his descriptive world building leaves nothing unsaid, uncreated, and/or undone. While there maybe some issues with the necessity of clockwork, this is the author’s prerogative and is accepted as such. I thoroughly enjoyed The Clockwork Detective and am grateful for the chance to read it before its release.
