Foods That Make Me Sick
Popcorn
Popcorn lives in my nightmares. Pizza as well. There are certain foods that make me terribly sick and those two top my list. I haven't had pizza in almost ten years. Sometimes I will nibble on the crust but that's as far as I can get. There is something I can't eat, a spice which my son calls fennel. I do not touch the spice in any way. Popcorn? I can feel it pass through my system. It's kinda like broken glass inside a sausage if you get the meaning. *shudder*
Pineapple
Next up is pineapple. I love pineapple. I love the texture, the taste, even the way it looks. However, if I dare to eat it my mouth breaks out in multiple ulcers. Even to the edges of my lips. *scary* and painful.
Ice cream/sugar/dairy
I can have a couple of spoonfuls of ice cream but after that my stomach blows up and I get sick. I have been tested for lactose intolerace and I am not intolerant. The effects that happen are entirely due to Crohn's disease. I have also been tested for celiac disease and I am not sensitive there either. I have been treated for candida because of the biologic drugs. The only thing that helps is just to stay sugar free. No sugar, no candida, no diabetes no gastritis. Seems like a win win situation. I miss sugar but Truvia is pretty darn good with limited side effects. I actually invented a great chocolate cookie that is pretty high in fat but 0 in sugar. Tastes good too.
Bread
I only eat bread on rare occasions. I can't deal with the high fiber like whole wheat and won't do processed white bread because it is just empty calories. Do I miss it? Yep I do. I love bread so to keep myself on track I do take a taste now and then when the craving is overwhelming.
Processed lunch meats
Never. Don't touch the stuff. Has sugar and a bunch of ingredients I can't pronounce and cannot digest.
So, what do I eat?
Lots of vegetables, meat, some fruits, and of course, my homemade cookies. I use almond flour for just about everything I bake. You have to be careful because if you don't get the ingredients just right you end up with a crumbly mess. My next experiment will be in creating an almond flour chocolate pie crust with sugar free chocolate pudding topped with heavy whipped cream. As I am a chocolate fanatic, I only need a little desert to soften the craving. It is the taste I am after, not the sugar high when it comes to chocolate.
I also eat a lot of nuts, seeds, eggs, chicken, pork, and beef. I went to the doc's last week and all my numbers are in line which means this diet is good for me, good for Crohn's disease, and good for cholesterol. I know it doesn't make sense, but my doc just shrugged her shoulders and said if it's working keep at it. And it is working.
Thanks for dropping by and a big thank you to my kids and husband for this awesome new tablet/laptop. I have such an awesome family.
Tomorrow is all about humor. :)
